We are the Egenhoff family and we are crazy about Disney! Specifically visiting Disneyland! 🏰🎢🎡
Like many families when it came time to plan our first family trip after years of not going we found that there was A LOT of information to take in! I would jokingly say it was like having a part-time job trying to plan and navigate through everything. 😅
But now we are seasoned travelers to the Disney parks and have made alllll the mistakes so you don't have to. 😏

“The right shoes can change your life.” - Cinderella
If you have never done Disney then let me tell ya, you are in for the most walking you have ever done on vacation! 🏃♀️
I’ve seen people in the parks wearing flip-flops and high heels, not my idea of comfortable walking shoes, but hey to each their own. But it makes me wonder if they really knew what they were getting themselves into.
On average we will walk anywhere from 6 -10 miles in a day while at the parks. That means good shoes for the entire family are a must! No one wants what is supposed to be a magical vacation to go crummy all because you wore uncomfortable shoes, right?
In this post, we are going to share with you our favorite shoes, why, and where to find them for the entire family! 👇
Our top shoe picks for kids! 👟
Believe it or not, having good shoes on your little one could make or break your day. One time we bought new shoes for my son and the insole started to peel while we were visiting Disney. It was a nightmare the poor kid was basically walking barefoot on concrete, ouch! Not to mention when you’ve got one grumpy and uncomfortable member in your group it can very quickly turn the whole group into grumps. You know the saying misery likes company!
My kids love their tennis shoes when we are visiting Disney and that’s what they tend to wear about 90% of the time. But I always bring a couple of options for them just in case. Plus, it’s sometimes nice to switch out your shoes mid-day if you get a chance to go back to your hotel. Below are our kid-approved top picks for tennis shoes and sandals.

Much like my kiddos, I tend to stick to either my sandals or my tennis shoes. But my favorite shoes to wear at the parks are my Teva sandals. They are so comfortable and stylish. Not only that, but my family also LOVES the water rides so when I’m wearing my sandals, I don’t have to worry about walking around in soggy socks for the good part of the day and that is enough to sell me on wearing any kind of sandals!
Below are my favorites to wear at the parks and some good other options that I have heard others find super comfortable.

Last but not least is shoes for Dad. My husband is a simple man and prefers to wear his Tennis Shoes, but his favorites are more of a hiking shoe that looks like a tennis shoe and is also waterproof which comes in handy for those rainy days and the water rides my family can’t seem to get enough of.
Below you’ll find his favorite options as well as some options that we have heard from my dad that were comfortable to wear while visiting the parks.

Other useful tips to consider to keep your 👣 comfortable:
When considering purchasing shoes plan ahead so everyone has time to break them in. There is nothing more painful than trying to break in shoes on your vacation walking 6+ miles a day. No one wants to be walking around with blistered feet. In addition, no matter how much you have worn or found your shoes to be broken in I always pack some extra supplies just in case like Mole Skin and band-aids to cover up areas that are rubbing your feet raw.
Another favorite of ours is an anti-chafe balm it looks like a deodorant stick, but you can rub it on areas that are getting raw like your inner thighs and the heels of your feet. My son swears by this stuff, and I keep a travel-sized one in my park bag for those much-needed chaffing moments. 😅
Lastly don’t forget to rest your feet when you get the chance. There are plenty of areas to sit around the parks and even sometimes in the ride queues like Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance. A little tip is to make sure you sit and take a break for lunch, whether you go back to your hotel and take a mid-day nap, (that’s our preferred option) or you just find a nice shady spot in the parks to rest, trust us you will appreciate it later in the day.
